CULTURAL SUPPORT PROVIDER (CSP)

Purpose:
Wa-Say Healing Centre Inc. invites applicants for a Contract position until March 31, 2023 as a Cultural Support Provider (CSP) to provide cultural support services to Indian Residential School (IRS) Survivors, Indian Day School (IDS) Survivors and their families with a commitment to working in the field of healing and wellness.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- To provide cultural support to IRS and IDS Survivors and their family members.
- To ensure eligible IRS and IDS Survivors and their family members can safely address a broad spectrum of cultural support related to the effects of the IRS and IDS experience.
- To share traditional teachings, values, protocols, history, land-based knowledge, medicines, stories, ceremonies, the language and by example, to guide IRS and IDS Survivors and their families towards healthy living from the effects of the IRS experience.
- To listen, enlighten and work as an equal with people with no judgement to bring balance back to the people.
- To refer other Cultural Support Providers/Traditional Helpers/Elders as needed for specific cultural support.
- Facilitate group support if requested.
- Coordinate land-based teachings, ceremonies and cultural workshops as needed.
- To provide teachings for female and male role/responsibilities.
- To maintain and monitor progress of support services provided.
- To collect and prepare statistical information for monthly and quarterly activity reports, both written and verbal.
- Identify IRS and IDS Survivor support needs and refer to the IRS RHSP as well as existing community services and supports.
- To be knowledgeable and provide support to Sixties Scoop Surivors and MMIWGTS family members as requested.
- Participate in team meetings.
- Open to carrying out other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- To be humble, honest, patient, committed, respectful, punctual and open-minded to provide guidance, prayers, leadership as requested while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- To possess personal ethics, spiritual views, live a healthy lifestyle and have a sense of community to provide accurate guidance and support by developing trusting relationships.
- To lead, share life experiences and teach about living the good way of life.
- To be gifted spiritually and hold traditional knowledge of protocols, ceremonies and cultural practices which have been passed down from generation to generation.
- To provide positive tools and teachings to allow one to begin to heal, grow and move forward in a good way.
- Experience working with IRS and IDS Survivors and their families.
- Knowledge of Manitoba Indigenous communities, affiliated organizations and programs and services.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultural and spiritual traditions is an asset.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations to small and large groups.
- Be a self-starter and can work independently.
- Have good assessment skills.
- Knowledge and application of computer softward (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Publisher).
- Ability to speak/understand an Indigenous language is an asset.
- Have a valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
- Be drug and alcohol free.
- Free to travel as needed.
A Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check must be provided to Wa-Say Healing Centre Inc. upon contract offer to the successful candidate.
