Senior Manager - First Nations Bachelor of Teaching Program

Yellowquill University College (YQUC) is currently offering a newly-developed Teacher Education program. YQUC requires a Senior Manager who has experience in working within an Education Degree program preferably with a First Nation component; who has the skills and knowledge to develop and organize a new department; to develop an academic program with a strong First Nation cultural component.  Must have an understanding of First Nation communities, the current education process for First Nation children and have a strong support for First Nation post-secondary education and training.

Job Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager will develop and organize an “Education Department” to ensure all aspects of academic programming are included.

The Senior Manager will oversee, review, evaluate current processes and organize, develop, coordinate and implement new processes. Will provide direction and support the Coordinators and the administration/receptionist. Manage and coordinate the duties/tasks associated with the delivery of Bachelor of Teaching/Education to both on campus and community based sites. Ensure the budgeting aspect of the two areas is monitored. The FNBT Senior Manager will report directly to the Director and Assistant Director of Yellowquill University College.

Will work with the First Nations Bachelor of Teaching Coordinators by providing guidance, direction, and oversight to the day to day activities associated with the development of the programs being delivered to on campus and community based programs.

This position will have the following responsibilities:

·         Communication and partnerships (in consultation with Management)

·         Academic/Program development for the FNBT Degree program (In consultation with Program Coordinators)

·         Human Resource functions including team management

Qualifications / Skills

  • Must have excellent organizing, developing and planning skills
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to relate – strong people skills
  • Knowledge of human resource management skills
  • Excellent strategic planning and goal setting skills
  • Developing and managing budgets and fund raising
  • Developing and implementing policies for new entity
  • Must be a team player
  • Must be able to provide mentorship and constructive feedback
  • Must be knowledgeable about the current education system and issues affecting First Nation people in Manitoba
  • Knowledge/awareness of First Nations peoples in general
  • Must support the concept of First Nation post-secondary institution development
  • Previous experience in working within post-secondary institutes and the government systems (Manitoba – Department of Education)
  • Must be available to work on-site at YQUC

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary education; a Bachelor’s, Master’s degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Management and administrative experience
  • Two years’ experience in a management role, preferably in Education
  • IT proficiency

This is a 6-month developmental term position and extension of contract may be considered.
