PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).

 

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

-University Bachelor's degree in a related discipline required, preferably Social Work.

-An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

EXPERIENCE:

-One year of directly-related academic advising and administrative experience required.

-Demonstrated knowledge of First Nations, Inuit, Metis communities and organizations in Manitoba required.

-Indigenous knowledge and familiarity with cultural practices is required

-Demonstrated knowledge of University of Manitoba policy and procedures pertaining to student and academic matters at a graduate level, is required.

-Advanced knowledge of Aurora Student, Aurora INB, Hobsons (Apply Yourself) is essential.

-Familiarity with FAST, Concur, and EPIC is preferred.

-Familiarity with cultural competence and safety concepts is required.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

-Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, initiative, organizational skills with time management skills for efficiency given workload demands, is required.

-Advanced computer skills and demonstrated knowledge of personal computer, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point), email and web browser is essential.

-Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is required.

-Demonstrate competence in working with students from First Nation, Inuit, Metis and other cultural and linguistic backgrounds is required.

-Proven ability to independently prioritize work and meet deadlines is required.

-Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and patience to work in harmony with all levels of faculty, staff, students and the public is required.

-Must be able to work independently and as a team member.

-Must be able to attend culture camp in August.

-Persons of Indigenous decent and familiarity with Indigenous and cultural practices are preferred and encouraged to apply.

-Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
