Counselor (Day Program)

Full-time Term position with the possibility of becoming regular full time.

Mikaaming Mino Pimatiziwin Healing Lodge, (MMPHL) is an accredited family addictions residential facility located in Sagkeeng First Nation, Manitoba. We offer a seven week culturally focused program within a safe and nurturing environment that is designed to empower families with healing, education, awareness, and Indigenous identity. MMPHL is currently seeking a Counselor for the Day Program.

Counselors provide an important skill set to the Clinical Team and are responsible for ensuring participants receive the full benefit of services and programming. They are expected to support participants in working towards their goals, enhance life skills, reduce/prevent relapse, and provide awareness, education, support and gentle guidance to participants who are committed to moving forward in achieving “Mino Pimatiziwin” (good life)

Employment Requirements:

  • Mental Health Counselling Certificate with Substance Use Disorder related training, or equivalent education with experience
  • Demonstrate awareness of impacts of colonization on Indigenous people and in particular the family unit
  • Knowledge and experience in traditional and contemporary healing practices
  • Ability to work with Elders, Healers and Clinicians within a group setting
  • Ability to function in crisis and/or pressure situations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Facilitation and/or Presentation skills
  • Life Skills Certificate
  • Ability to network with external resources that will benefit The Healing Lodge’s programming
  • Must possess computer skills i.e. Microsoft Word in order to adhere to all reporting requirements as established by Supervisor
  • Experience in mental health counseling, assessments and work related knowledge of substance use disorders
  • Must adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Code of Professional Conduct of the Centre
  • Valid Class 4 Drivers License or Class 5 and in process of securing a Class 4
  • Access to own vehicle and a clear Drivers Abstract
  • Must have a current Emergency First Aid / CPR certificate
  • Provide current Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Checks
  • Must be able to demonstrate how you lead a positive & healthy lifestyle (ie. references and/or cover letter)
