Social Sciences Instructor

Full-Time Regular Position

The Position: University College of the North requires an Instructor to teach Social Science courses within the Faculty of Arts, Business and Science program at The Pas Campus.  In addition to teaching duties, the Instructor will be responsible for related duties including classroom management, student supervision, maintenance of student records and grades, curriculum refinement and other administrative tasks.

           Qualifications:

  • A Graduate degree in Sociology or a related discipline with specialization in the areas of globalization, social movements, race, class, gender, sexuality, feminism, and social justice

  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary environment

  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Effective communication skills

  • Effective interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent teamwork and time management skills

  • Experience working in an online/virtual environment using various Learning Management Systems (Adobe, Zoom. D2L, etc)

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and deal with issues specific to Indigenous learners and mature students in northern Manitoba

  • Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures

    Assets:

  • PhD in Sociology

  • Experience teaching courses ranging from introductory to upper-level sociology and critical theory courses

  • Proven research in Sociology or the Social Sciences field

  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary environment

  • Willingness to travel

  • The ability to speak an Indigenous language
