Add purpose and meaning to your IT career!

The Director, IT & Facilities role is a unique opportunity to apply your technology management skills to making a difference in our community.  United Way uses technology extensively to make it easy for thousands of people to get involved - through financial gifts and volunteering – so that we can all help kids reach their potential, support families to move out of poverty and sustain healthy people and neighbourhoods.  To ensure we leverage technology appropriately in our stakeholder interactions, you will provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight to a 5 person IT team. Key focuses include identifying and evaluating business-enabling software solutions; providing infrastructure solutions and support processes that improve services and realize efficiencies; and providing our volunteer, agency and workplace partners with anytime, anywhere access to tools.  With a Facility Manager as your direct report, you will also lead facility operations to ensure a welcoming environment for volunteers, guests and staff; that we embrace eco-friendly practices; and that we are a good neighbour.

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Internal Services, this role will:

  • Gain an understanding of business operations and monitor ongoing developments in the technology field in order to support all departments in achieving the organization’s goals.
  • Oversee all aspects of information technology operations and telecom systems including delivery and coordination of end user support, network administration, infrastructure development, application support, and business continuity.
  • Develop, implement and maintain standards, policies, procedures, and internal controls for the use of information technology and telecom systems.
  • Liaise with other United Ways across Canada to leverage each other’s IT strengths.
  • Manage relationships and procurement with vendors and consultants including managing request for proposal processes
  • Facilitate and support a volunteer-lead Technology Advisory Committee.
  • Prepare financial budgets and present proposals for capital projects to senior management.

You have a passion for learning new technical solutions and realizing their benefits.   You are committed to customer service and a quality user experience. You also have:

  • A degree/diploma in computer science, management information systems, information systems technology, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
  • 3-5 years in a management position with an information technology focus in a Microsoft environment
  • Experience evaluating technology solutions in relation to business requirements
  • Experience providing project oversight and supervising software/infrastructure support operations
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with particular attention to detail and follow-through
  • Excellent analytical and critical/strategic thinking skills including problem-solving abilities
  • Intellectual curiosity and a keen interest in innovation and continuous improvement
  • The ability to inspire your team and coach people to help them maximize their strengths
  • Ideally, a solid understanding of facility management including security and building operations
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment and manage several tasks simultaneously
