CLASSIFICATION:

SP2 – SP3  Qualified Candidate’s Salary Range:  $46,360.78 – $65,102.77

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Degree or diploma in social sciences, counselling or a combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge, respect and appreciation of Anishinaabe culture, values and healing practices, ability to speak Anishinaabemowin a definite asset
  • Working knowledge and understanding of family systems, residential schools, colonization and effects of intergenerational trauma, abandonment, abuse, grief, loss, and addictions
  • Working knowledge of Southeast communities including strengths and resiliencies with a commitment to making a positive difference to the lives of Southeast families
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and foster successful working relationships with children, families and professionals while nurturing an environment of quality, trauma informed and culturally safe care
  • Demonstrated support for the philosophy of participant involvement in program development with basic knowledge and understanding of principles of attachment, learning, behaviour and motivation theories
  • Working knowledge and understanding of ages and stages of child development, traditional parenting and behaviour management with a belief in a non-violent approach to parenting
  • Good interpersonal, communication and listening skills with the ability to build and maintain rapport with adults and children
  • Ability to de-escalate conflict, remain calm under pressure and provide resolution when dealing with challenging or confrontational behaviour
  • Must be positive, non-judgemental, empathetic and have a sensitive approach with the capacity to act as a healthy lifestyle role model
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record; Child and Adult Abuse Registry; and, Prior Contact Check

 

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

 

  • Conduct assessments of participants' assets, barriers, skills, education, experience and motivation using relevant assessment tools and assists in the development and execution of wellness plans
  • Assis families in the process of making positive life changes through providing a variety of day-to-day physical, emotional and social supports, advocacy, information, resources and demonstrations
  • Build relationships with families through modelling healthy relationships and boundaries; creating a safe environment; and being an avenue of support in helping family participants achieve their self-identified wellness goals through a non-judgemental and person-centred approach 
  • Support the delivery of program services to participants, preparing materials and facilitating or assisting with sessions, activities and ceremonies, including monitoring and supporting families during evenings, overnight and weekends to meet program goals
  • Liaise and help connect participants with relevant community programs and services to strengthen family cohesion, improve parenting skills and promote positive parent-child interactions
  • Help provide a safe and stimulating environment for children while assisting in identifying children’s developmental concerns and providing appropriate referrals
