New Directions for Children, Youth, Adults & Families is currently seeking a detail-oriented individual who is looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity. This position’s responsibilities include overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll, under the guidance of the Controller. As an integral part of the Accounting department, the Assistant Controller will provide leadership and mentoring to the staff. The Assistant Controller will develop and maintain exceptional working relationships with Agency staff and promote the Accounting department as a supportive resource to the Agency. The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller.

 

Primary areas of responsibility and accountability will include, but are not limited to:

 

Accounting

  • Oversight of day to day operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and payroll
  • Systems administration for accounting software and oversight of a redesign of payroll processes, with a potential upgrade of payroll software
  • Maintaining cash flow reporting
  • Ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures

Financial Reporting

  • Responsibility for preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Oversight of specialized reporting requirements
  • Assisting in the planning and completion of annual audit and annual budget

 

Professional Competencies

  • Provide ongoing assessment and recommendations for improvements of financial policies, procedures and controls
  • Demonstrated understanding of processes and a willingness to review and streamline processes to improve the Agency’s ability to achieve its goals
  • Creation and fostering of positive and supportive relationships with the Agency’s service areas and the ability to act on the Controller’s behalf in their absence
  • Proven ability to create a balanced solution when competing priorities are present

The successful candidate:

  • Will be a designated accountant or near completion of their accounting designation with a minimum 5-8 years related experience in accounting and minimum of 1-3 years’ experience supervising staff
  • Will have strong organization skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and deliver solutions that work for all stakeholders
  • Must have exceptional analytical skills and have the technical expertise to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Will foster a spirit of teamwork and cooperation with staff and others
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite and have advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge. Experience with Microsoft NAV and Payworks is considered an asset 
  • Financial Management experience specifically in the social service sector and/or a non-profit environment and fluency in American Sign Language are all considered assets

 

The salary range is $48,521.20 to $67,940.60 per annum based on a 35-hour work week.  New Directions offers a work-life balance, has up-to-date technology, a robust benefits package that includes a pension plan which is matched by the employer, and opportunities for professional and personal growth in a diverse and unique environment.
