Swampy Cree Tribal Council requires

Tribal Housing Advisor



Term Position:               ending March 2020 (with possibility of extension)


Swampy Cree Tribal Council has an opening for a Tribal Housing Advisor. Under the direction of the Technical Unit Manager, the successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following services:


·        Assist member First Nations in gathering housing and infrastructure data required for DISC budget submissions;

·        Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with national building codes;

·        Evaluate and approve housing plans and specifications;

·        Inspect houses under construction or renovation for quality control, national building code standards, construction methods and techniques, and adherence to plans and specifications;

·        Complete and submit inspection reports as required by DISC or CMHC;

·        Ensure that deficiencies identified on inspection reports are rectified;

·        Advise First Nations’ Administrators on housing programs and policies;

·        Assist in the preparation of documentation to enable First Nations to apply for CMHC housing and renovation programs;



·        Grade 12 or equivalent

·        Must have a valid Manitoba Driver’s License and be willing to travel.

·        Experience working in Construction Industry with knowledge of Housing, National Building Code, Electrical Code, Plumbing & Fire Code.

·        Qualified Native Inspection Services Initiative (NISI) inspector or eligible to become qualified as a NISI inspector or a combination of experience.

·        Proposal writing skills

·        Must have good communication skills and able to work in a team environment.



·        Good organizational and report writing skills

·        Familiar with CMHC Section 95 and RRAP programs

·        Understanding of Aboriginal Culture

·        Ability to speak Cree

·        Computer Skills/Programs (Microsoft, powerpoint, excel, etc)


Condition of Employment:

·        Must pass a criminal records and child abuse check

·        Must be able and willing to travel

·        Work overtime as required

·        Employee must sign a confidential and non-disclosure agreement upon employment
