Education Support Teacher (Term Position)

Reporting to the Education Program Specialist, provides a caring and stimulating individual education plan for children in early years and middle years education. Working with the team, children will be nurtured through developmentally appropriate, supportive, and collaborative school and home environments where children will have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Provides individual plans to meet individual needs. May lead and functionally supervise teacher's aides or assistants.




·        Create and provide developmentally appropriate middle years and high school education programming; plan and implements curriculum and education for children and youth;


·        Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children and youth;


·        Plan and prepare learning settings; supervise children and youth in the learning environment; provide a supportive environment in which children and youth can learn and practice appropriate individual and group behaviors;


·        Interact with parents and school groups; maintain open and cooperative communication with Shawenim Abinoojii Inc staff teams and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child's relationships;


·        Write and compile individual assessments of each student’s development; completes daily inventories, attendance, and related reports;


·        Lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.




·        Post Secondary degree in Education or equivalent education;


·        Previous experience in the education field, program development, and applying educational principles in non educational environments;


·        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and thrives in a busy team-oriented work environment;


·        Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures related to program delivery and education.


·        Demonstrated leadership ability, diplomacy, sound judgement and decision making;


·        Knowledge of traditional and western child development theory and practice.


·        Knowledge and understanding of traditional and contemporary Indigenous ways of life.


The candidate/incumbent is required to provide a satisfactory child abuse, vulnerable person check and a criminal record check in order to work in this position. Must secure and maintain a valid class 5 Driver's license.
