BACKGROUND INFORMATION “Shaw-way-en-em-Aa-bin-oo-jee” means “nurturing our children” in Ojibway. Shawenim Abinoojii Inc. (SAI) is a comprehensive resource responsible to develop and enhance community-based resources for on- and off-reserve children, families, and communities serviced by Southeast Child and Family Services. SAI is a not-for-profit specialized treatment service that provides exclusive services to SECFS in the areas of support worker program and specialized treatment homes for the children and families served by SECFS. The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: As the Payroll and Benefits Clerk, you will have the opportunity to work with management and employees to ensure all payroll and benefit processing issues are resolved quickly, within the guidelines laid out by corporate policy and regulated requirement. You will be responsible for supporting the finance team with all day-to-day administrative tasks related to the payroll and benefits function including providing effective communication with outside organizations such as benefit service providers and government organization. Other job details include but not limited to:
• Complete all aspects of the payroll function including data entry • Assist in distribution of pay slips • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data • Update payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers • Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings • Complete administrative tasks related to the corporate benefit package, pension plan, stock options and RRSP • Maintain and file pertinent employment documentation in employee files • Help team members by performing other duties within finance department in support of goals
QUALIFICATIONS: Ideally you have, or are working towards, a Payroll compliance Practitioner designation. A strong knowledge of payroll and benefit regulations is required. Experience using SAGE accounting software would be considered an asset. Working knowledge of MS Office with high proficiency in Excel is needed. Working knowledge of basic accounting practices is a strong asset.
Fast and accurate data entry skills, strong attention to detail, and proven problem-solving skills will help you thrive in this position. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required. Maintaining a respectable communication style and interpersonal skills is essential when working in the diverse workforce that Shawenim Abinoojii Inc. fosters.
