The Ombudsman is an independent Officer of the Legislative Assembly with oversight responsibilities under The Ombudsman Act, The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), and The Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act (PIDA). The Ombudsman investigates complaints from the public, or on his or her own initiative, and reviews administrative decision-makings in support of principles of fairness, openness, and accountability; investigates complaints or, on his or her own initiative, investigates any decision, act or omission relating to a matter of administration by provincial government departments, agencies, boards, commissions, municipalities and other public bodies;  makes public reports when deemed in the public interest; and provides informational and educational services to the public, public bodies, and the Legislative Assembly.




Essential Criteria:

  • Experience providing client services including communicating with the public and public bodies by telephone and in person.
  • Experience conducting research and reviewing documentation for relevant information.
  • Experience interpreting legislation and policy.
  • Experience working and providing support within a highly sensitive and confidential environment. 
  • Demonstrated organization and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong conflict resolution skills including the ability to work with challenging individuals and people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and courteously.
  • Excellent written communications skills. 
  • Ability to work both independently and co-operatively in a team environment.
  • Experience working with MS Office (including Word and Outlook).




Desired criteria:

  • Knowledge of Maximizer or similar database system would be an asset. 
  • French written and oral communication skills.




Reporting to the Intake Supervisor (Ombudsman Division), the Intake Complaints Analyst receives enquiries and complaints from the public relating to matters of administration. The incumbent is also responsible for identifying the specific nature of complaints, explaining the role and function of the office, assessing jurisdiction, explaining avenues of review or appeal, making appropriate referrals for non-jurisdictional concerns, reviewing documentation, conducting research and in consultation with the  Intake Supervisor, determining whether complaints should be elevated to a formal investigation.    





Competitive Process: The competition will include a board interview(s), and a comprehensive written assessment. The successful candidate will be subject to a six (6) month probationary period.
