We are seeking two experienced Engineering Technicians who will be to carry out jobsite contract administration and construction inspection associated with the construction of the Keeyask Generating Station.  You will be a part of our Keeyask Project, for a term ending approximately May 31, 2020. The work location will be at the Keeyask Construction site with single status accommodations. You will reside in a modern construction camp hotel-like facility that is among the highest quality facilities of its kind in the country. The Keeyask Camp includes top notch recreation facilities including full gymnasium with two sports courts, indoor running track, weight room, games room, movie theater and restaurant-style dining complex. Staff will work a rotational schedule that consists of 21 days at the Keeyask site followed by 7 days off. You must be prepared to travel and work outside normal business hours and you will be required to take Cross Cultural Awareness Training at the project site. Airfare and transportation to site will be provided by Manitoba Hydro.


The Keeyask Project is a collaborative effort between Manitoba Hydro and four Manitoba First Nations – Tataskweyak Cree Nation, York Factory First Nation, Fox Lake Cree Nation and War Lake First Nation – working together as the Keeyask Hydropower Limited Partnership (KHLP). The project is located 725 kilometers northeast of Winnipeg on the lower Nelson River and 30 kilometers west of Gillam, Manitoba.



Under the direction of the Resident Engineer or delegate, and with minimum supervision, carry out jobsite contract administration and construction inspection associated with the construction of the Keeyask Generating Station.



  • Grade 12 and an appropriate certificate (such as Project Management, Civil/Construction Technician) plus a minimum of three years of directly related experience in heavy civil construction. Other certificates may be considered. 
  • Survey experience would be an asset.
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, standards and construction methods. 
  • Demonstrated experience in construction as it related to heavy civil construction projects.
  • Proficient ability to act independently and complete assignments with minimum direction.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers including standard Microsoft software applications, hand held calculators and general office equipment required to perform the job.
  • Proven experience with working harmoniously with contractors, construction personnel and first nation members.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position including: working in areas of rough terrain; near and on waterways; various heights; and climbing in and around scaffolding.
  • Working knowledge of Manitoba Hydro Safety Management System and Environmental Management System.
  • Working knowledge of Manitoba Hydro’s safety rules and procedures as they relate to heavy civil construction.
  • Have strong organizational skills.
  • Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver’s Licence with appropriate class.
