Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post graduate doctoral degree in moleculary biology or a related discipline ; or an equivalent combination of education training and experience in related field may be considered 
  • Experience in diagnostic virology and molecular diagnostics of animal or human pathogens including design and validation of PCR assays and next generation sequencing
  • Knowledge of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Deoxyriboneucleic Acid (DNA) sequence analysis, detection of immunoglobulins by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and quality assurance in a diagnostic lab setting 
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage competing priorities while working under pressure and tight deadlines in an environment of constant change
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision 
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills 
  • Strong computer skills 
  • Strong Interpersonal skills with the ability to consult and collaborate with both internal and external clients


Desired:

  • Certificate in American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM) and/or Fellow of the Canadian College of Microbiologists (FCCM)
  • Strong leadership skills 

 

Duties:
The Molecular Biologist is responsible for defining, developing, overseeing, and evaluating all scientific and technical aspects of diagnostic testing and research in the virology and molecular diagnostics section to determine the cause of illness or death within a herd or individual animal.
