This is achieved by creating a home environment that welcomes the participation of the child or youth, supporting their pursuit of interests and goals, and helping maintain and strengthen the bond between the child or youth and their significant others. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Be a positive role model
· Work directly with children and/or youth placed in the Resource Home
· Ability to handle crisis situations in an appropriate manner
· Administer medication as necessary
· Assist individuals as necessary with activities of daily living and fostering healthy lifestyle
· Document and report all contact with clients in a timely manner
· Ensure culturally appropriate services
· Escort children and/or youth to appointments
· Guide and direct individuals in areas of socially acceptable behaviour
· Implement all goals and plans set out for each individual
· Monitor and assess health needs
· Positive relationship building with clients and collaterals
· Provide guidance to children and/or youth (life skills, self-care techniques, communication skills, budgeting, nutrition, etc.)
· Responsible for monitoring and supporting resident activities, ensuring the safety and security of children and youth, and enforcing house policies during the evenings, overnights and on weekends
· Work closely with the Specialized Foster Parent and/or Agency staff to provide the designated services
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Experience working with children, youth and/or families
· Excellent people/interpersonal skills
· Flexible schedule
· Exceptional crisis intervention and risk assessment skills
· Experience in documentation and logging
· Experience working in a residential setting is an asset
· First Aid and CPR certified considered an asset
· Flexibility to work on short notice and in the evenings and/or on weekends (if required)
· Good conflict resolution skills
· Knowledge of the 7 Sacred Teachings
· Knowledge of Peguis First Nation Legislation; The Honouring our Children, Families and Nation Act
· Maintain a high degree of professionalism, courteousness, and friendliness
· Self-motivated and dedicated team player
· Valid class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle to use for work is required (mileage paid)
